Leaderly Quote: Having a bad boss isn’t your fault.
By Jo Miller
Here’s another great quote from one of our favorite leaders:
“Having a bad boss isn’t your fault. Staying with one is.”

And if you’re currently working for a bad boss, you have our sympathy. Here are seven strategies to help you get through the day.
I’m not sure whether it’s out of fear, loyalty, or inertia, but I see women staying too long in jobs with bad bosses. If your boss is demotivating you, derailing you or putting a lid on your career development, don’t overstay. You don’t do yourself, your company or even your boss any favors by staying in an environment where you’re discouraged from bringing your best.
If you’ve done your best to work with them and communicate with them and nothing has changed, it’s time for an exit plan.
As a first step, think about your goals for your next position. What would be your ideal role? Next, think about how much more energized and motivated you would feel if you had a manager that supported you.
