Leaderly quote: If you haven’t had a major fail in your career…
By Jo Miller
“If you haven’t had a major fail in your career — face-plant level — you aren’t trying hard enough.”
— @SallieKrawcheck
Sallie Krawcheck is Chair of Ellevate, a global professional women’s network. In past roles, she was one of the most senior women leaders on Wall Street, in roles such as CFO for Citigroup and CEO of Citi’s wealth management business.
When I came across this quote from Krawcheck, it made me laugh out loud for a couple reasons.
At first, I LOL’d in recognition of the universal truth: That you’ve got to take risks and leaps of faith and mess up and fail if you want to fully realize your potential in your career.
Then I laughed with relief that I got my major career face-plant out of the way relatively early on (I got fired from my first job.)
Have you had a major career fail? If not, why not? And what will you do to try harder?
