According to leadership coach Susan Ritchie, being nice and being a people-pleaser may initially serve you well in your career.
But as you start to transition into a leadership role, says Ritchie, “…this trait will ultimately fail you” — especially if it prevents you from being able to have tough conversations or accept critique, or even converse with others whose communication style is more blunt than you own.
So as you go about your day, keep this in mind:
“Not everyone is going to like, approve of, or agree with you or your decisions. And that’s OK,” says Ritchie. “You CAN live with that! It might feel uncomfortable to begin with but we get used to everything given time.”
