Leaderly Quote: When you fail, it diminishes your fear
By Jo Miller
You took a big risk… and failed. What now?
This is a question I asked Holly Meidl in a recent leadership webinar.
“If you can keep a positive attitude, every risk you take brings an opportunity to learn,” says Meidl, who is Senior Vice President of the Healthcare Division of Allied World Assurance Company, Ltd. She has three great pieces of advice for anyone who has taken a bold risk and failed.
3 ways to move forward when you fail
1) Don’t beat yourself up about it. You took a chance, and learned something. So pat yourself on the back for having taken a risk.
2) Own the experience. Be proud of the fact that you stepped out, took that risk, and tried to find a better way of doing things or a better outcome.
3) Move on. When you fail, it diminishes your fear of future failure. Next time, you won’t be as fearful about taking a risk because you know what that feels like.
